From July 9 to 13, 2018, the 139 European Study Group with Industry will be held in Santiago de Compostela, thanks to the collaboration between the Spanish Mathematical-Industry Network (math-in) and the Technological Institute of Industrial Mathematics (ITMATI).

Started in Oxford in 1968, the European Study Group with Industry (ESGI) is a forum for working together industrial scientists and mathematical researchers on problems of interest to the industry. It is an internationally recognized method of transfer of technology and knowledge between Mathematics and Industry.

The success of the ESGI lies in its unique format, which has been reproduced throughout the world, in which the mathematical community meets in working groups to deal with problems presented directly by the industry, and thanks to the transversality of mathematics they are affordable in all economic sectors. The objective of the ESGI is to make known the capabilities of Mathematics and its applicability in a large part of the challenges and needs of the industrial fabric, bringing to small, medium and large companies a technology with great potential, with highly qualified researchers and It does not need large investments for its use.

  • Find solutions and ideas about existing industrial problems;
  • Establish lasting and productive working relationships between mathematicians of applied research and industry;
  • Propose new lines of research based on business challenges;
  • Strengthen the importance of Mathematics in industry and mathematical profiles in companies; Y
  • Stimulate greater awareness in the community of the power of mathematics in providing solutions to real-world problems.
