Encouraged by the fact that the post I wrote, in which I talked about the prevailing opinion about Prototype, was warmly received by bloggers (at least they didn’t throw rotten tomatoes at me), I decided to write another IMHO about another game. So, on the agenda – Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Is bad company bad??
At the beginning I will describe my opinion about the single company. Starting to go through this game mode, I couldn’t help but compare it with the company Modern Warfare 2 , because I passed it much earlier BC2 and it’s still hard to forget. And comparisons, it must be said, were made in everything: from the plot and main characters to special effects and sound. Let’s start in order.
Plot. Creating a really high-quality and interesting plot for a pure-blooded shooter is something that ranks far from the first place, and if you look at the current developers, you get the impression that this activity is about fiftieth on the list of “Creating an Action Movie”. It’s no joke, over the past two years we’ve only seen an almost identical story centered on secret weapons of mass destruction, bad Russians wanting to conquer the world, outright cranberries and nice guys from the West saving the planet, without a break for lunch, from all these misfortunes. AND MW2, And BC2 do not hesitate to sin with this “gentleman’s” set of a modern shooter.
A small digression No. 1: The moment with bad Russians can also be understood, because a shooter associated with a military theme (that is, without outright science fiction) is the most widespread and frequently encountered product on the video game market, and each time coming up with new antagonists (many people are tired of the Germans and Arab terrorists) is, to put it mildly, difficult. So the developers remembered the great and mighty “Red Menace”, and given that the gaming industry is designed primarily for Western audiences, the topic has gained popularity. Personally, I have already come to terms with this moment and it doesn’t really bother me, but I still believe that the domestic gaming industry will someday achieve colossal heights, gain popularity, and then everyone will know that the role of “bak” can be reviled by those same nice guys from the West :).
Typical Russian villain. The face is like a gorilla, you can tell by the color of his skin that he loves and respects vodka, okay, at least he doesn’t walk around in a hat with earflaps and doesn’t dance in circles with bears, and that’s good.
A little more about the screenwriter’s creation
So, the story begins during the Second World War, or more precisely in 1943. We, as part of a group of American special forces and a mind-blowing rubber boat, set off in search of a Japanese scientist-defector who is waiting for us somewhere on the coast of Japan. This coastline is dotted with pillboxes, machine-gun emplacements and a huge cloud of Japanese soldiers, among other things,. It’s clear that the special forces group doesn’t give a damn and tries to do the business under the cover of darkness and “quietly”, but, of course, everything doesn’t go as planned and our group has to solve the problem in the old fashioned way, that is, start an open battle (who would have guessed that everything would go exactly like this?!). This is where the plot gradually begins to awaken, which can intrigue. And again, comparisons with the plot MW2 I couldn’t avoid it and in comparison, whatever one may say, it wins BC2, because here it is more or less interesting and, if you get carried away, you can spoil it. However, objectively the plot BC2 these are still the same tons of cranberries, but, nevertheless, these tons are simply better told through good videos. Yes, I have absolutely nothing against the good old videos in shooters, because it is in them, for the most part, that the storyline advances (it is worth noting that this line will begin to advance from the fourth mission), and the main characters BC2 and show us their character (or try to show?).
A small digression No. 2 https://prime-casino.co.uk/login/ (most likely for those who have completed the game): Sometimes, due to some twists and turns in the plot, it seems that two competing campaigns (that is, Infinity Ward And Dice) developed games in the same building, and their offices were located directly opposite each other, and when one of the developers went for a cup of coffee, he quietly looked into the office of the screenwriter of a competing campaign and hastily wrote down in a notebook everything that he saw in the still unfinished script, in order to later introduce interesting ideas into his game and, since Modern Warfare 2 came out earlier Bad Company 2, I still get the impression that I committed plagiarism Dice.
High-quality videos are a blessing, and with good music (which is great in BC2) it’s just a blessing.
Army of Four.
It’s time to talk about the characters (luckily you can write something about them). After the mission in Japan, we are transported to the near future, where the bad Russians have already made a splash and at the same time captured almost all countries except the homeland of McDonald’s and silicone-stuffed movie stars, that is, America (also quite suddenly), and our quartet of interesting characters will be the bearers of all the ideals of democracy. But, I must note that people who have not played the first part (for obvious reasons) will not really understand who these guys are. How did they end up where they ended up?? What’s going on anyway? And for me, these questions only opened up after completing the game completely, because I don’t have a console, which means I got to the first part B.C I didn’t play, so I didn’t sit in front of the monitor smiling from ear to ear seeing supposedly “old” acquaintances. But it is worth admitting that when immersed in the process of passing, the main characters seemed quite interesting and, to some extent, charismatic. Constant negotiations on various topics, caustic jokes towards enemies and… main competitors. Yes, there are moments when the heroes do not forget to call some guys with heartbeat sensors on their trunks an unkind word. This group includes four fighters and I’ll introduce them in order:
Preston Marlowe is the protagonist we will play for. Before the start of almost every mission, he likes to speculate and think about what happened.
Samuel D.Redford (or just a sergeant) is an old soldier who dreams of retirement and, in general, sometimes regrets that he became a soldier and did not get a job in some office where he would sit and make power point presentations.
Sweetwater – plays the role of a hacker and a person more or less versed in electronics (a programmer with an M60 in his hands is just some kind of psychological attack).
Flynn (thanks to the good memory of Freeman213) is a hippie, pacifist, Buddhist, pilot and generally an interesting guy, and he’s also just dying without smoking. I don’t know if he can be called a full-fledged member of the team, but he helps quite often.
Also, it’s worth noting that for once I was pleased with the localization. The characters are voiced with feeling, sometimes explicit swearing slips through, but it doesn’t spoil anything, it only adds to the atmosphere.
And now, what did I even buy for? BC2 and this is something, of course, multiplayer, because whatever you say, I got the impression (and not only me) that a single company is just a pleasant addition to the highlight of the program. Division into classes, leveling up (this is not new, but if it weren’t, it would be very bad), team interaction, tactics – all this is in multiplayer BC2. It is here that you can feel the atmosphere of war: explosions, shootouts (again, with a wonderful soundtrack, the first two points are beyond praise), ground and air battles on various vehicles and your squad, with whom you are trying to take coordinated actions and tactical tricks – all this makes you delighted.
Teamplay is really important. A harmonious and coordinated squad of several people is much more effective than a crowd that runs under fire with cheerful hootings.
But what’s nice, Dice very competently motivate the teamplay itself. Each class has a specific function that the other class does not have, which makes them "connected", that is, in essence, there is not a single type of fighter that is unnecessary and they are all irreplaceable, and they are all actively used. Any help to a teammate is rewarded with experience points, whether you threw a first aid kit to the wounded, repaired a friendly vehicle or shared ammo – all this gives precious experience, the accumulation of which unlocks new weapons, various gadgets and abilities.
Digression No. 3 (for those who understand): I would like to note that when I first started playing multiplayer BC2, I was a little in a stupor and I was in a stupor because before that, online I played almost exclusively M.W on hardcore difficulty mode and the problem I encountered in BC2, I think it’s clear. Adjust to the fact that it is worth fixing the sight on the enemy and firing a lot more than two bullets at him (sometimes it’s amazing how tenacious these bastards are!1), and also don’t run headlong for the old nerd M.W – not an easy task :).
So, it’s time to end all this disgrace and tell you that the game, in my opinion, really deserves the title “Amazing”. In multiplayer Bad Company 2 I found everything I wanted and for me it became a kind of standard of multiplayer battles. A single company, which also pleased me with its more or less intelligible plot, characters who do not seem like stupid dummies running after the protagonist (although, why bother, sometimes they reminded me of them :)), and also, I can’t help but remember, the idea of one of the characters that the enemy, after all, is also a person (philosophy is a sack, albeit not a cunning one, but still a sack) and that’s how since the screenwriter can be praised for this idea.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!11
If someone expresses a desire to show true teamplay and severely punish everyone in multiplayer, then add me as a friend, my nickname in BC2 is Sharp56.
